8/15 9 a.m. – done: South Gandy Beach Cleanup Keep Pinellas Beautiful
Meet at South Gandy Beach, east of The Getaway about halfway down the beach. Look for the direction signs, table, and tent!
GPS Coordinates: 27.873217, -82.603486. Must be registered to help! Join Keep Pinellas Beautiful the third Saturday of every month at South Gandy Beach! Volunteers will assist with cleaning the shoreline and mangroves to preserve this vital ecosystem.
8/15 6 – 9 p.m.: Birds in Helping Hands: Meet the Bird Rescue Crew Brenda McMahon Gallery

This month’s BIRD EXHIBITION is a fundraiser for Birds in Helping Hands, a not-for-profit bird rescue that serves Hillsborough, Pasco & Pinellas counties. We’ve asked them to share more about what they do and how they work. We aim to both raise awareness and help more injured Florida birds. This sit-down talk will run from 6-7pm.
8/21 10 a.m – 2 p.m.: The Great Southeast Pollinator Census Pinellas Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society
Join other pollinator fans for this annual event that takes place in six Southeastern states. School groups, gardeners, families and individuals are all invited to be part of the project. Each census-taker will choose a plant in the nature preserve to monitor for 15 minutes and will count how many pollinators visit it during that time. No, you don’t have to be able to identify butterflies and bees! Pollinators will be counted by categories. Free

8/21 8 – 11 a.m.: Northeast Gandy Beach Clean Up Woodies’ Wash Shack with Keep Pinellas Beautiful
We will meet at Northeast Gandy Beach, on the North side of Gandy Blvd in St. Petersburg (Last left turn before heading over the bridge to Tampa). Look for the Keep Pinellas Beautiful signs, table and tent. Volunteers will assist with cleaning the shoreline and mangroves.

8/24 Deadline for submission: Wild Native Florida Photo Contest MAR~Mindful Action for Regeneration
MAR is hosting the Wild Native Florida Photo Contest to select photographs for its official 2027 wall calendar. The twelve (12) top-scoring entries will be published in the calendar, with the single highest-scoring photo featured on the cover. The calendar will be sold to the public, with proceeds supporting MAR’s mission. There are submission fees and there is also a prize.

If you love Weedon Island, please know that the county is considering removing all of its funding. You can take action by letting the County Commissioners know you want the county to continue to support this preserve through this link.
